New Spells: Dream Eater, Cursed Chrysalis, Necromantic Nexus & Counterblast

New Spells: Dream Eater, Cursed Chrysalis, Necromantic Nexus & Counterblast

Dream Eater (Level 1 Divination) lets you feed on the dreams of a sleeping creature. It takes psychic damage - which doesn’t wake it up! - and you regain hit points. When the creature finally wakes up drenched in sweat, it’s frightened of you for a while. Flavorful, cool, and practical. And it goes hand in hand with Dream Harvest, which is coming next week.

Cursed Chrysalis (Level 4 Transmutation) is for everyone who finds Death Ward too boring, too mainstream, or outside their spell selection. When you drop to 0 hit points, you shed your body like old skin or an empty cocoon and emerge with half your hit points, but also with a halved hit point maximum. You can theoretically do this more than once, but the hit points only come back after a long rest. The whole thing is nicely disgusting and a different way of cheating death for once.

Necromantic Nexus (Level 3 Necromancy) is a spell that’s fighting for a precious third level spell slot. You create an area around yourself in which undead get buffed. Should they drop to 1 hp or go from 0 hp back up to 1 hp, which happens often enough thanks to Undead Fortitude and the like, they gain temporary hit points. On top of that, you can bring one undead creature at 0 hp back up with 1 hit point for free each round, and of course it immediately gets those temporary hit points as well. That way you get more mileage out of your minions!

Counterblast (Level 2 Evocation) competes with Shield for your reaction while being simple and efficient. You take damage and it goes boom, the enemy takes damage and may get hurled backwards, which of course makes it easier for you to clear out. The damage scales with the slot you put into it, and at level six you’re finally able to shove even gargantuan creatures away from you.

Overall, it’s a cool selection of spells that you can use to freshen up your players’ spellbooks, give your monsters some neat extra abilities, or enhance items of your choice. Everything is fully integrated and available to all patrons!
