We at Beneos Tokens are committed to providing you with the best possible experience for your Tabletop Role-Playing Games (TTRPGs). We understand the importance of smooth gameplay and immersive experiences, and we're always striving to improve our offerings. Today, we're excited to share some important updates about our Patreon, "Beneos Tokens," and how we're refining our approach to better serve you.
Addressing Performance Issues
In the past, we offered Animation Switching for FoundryVTT, which included multiple individual animation files for each token. While this feature was designed to enhance gameplay, we found that FoundryVTT wasn't optimized for quick actor-animation switches. This resulted in performance issues, including stuttering animations and noticeable delays when switching from one animation to another.
We've spent the last year trying to resolve these issues, even rewriting the Beneos Tokens module twice. However, we've come to realize that trying to build FoundryVTT like a computer game isn't feasible. Instead of persisting with a solution that doesn't meet our standards, we've decided to focus on what works well and improve on that.
Refocusing on Quality and Variety
We're excited to announce a complete reorientation of our Patreon. We're moving away from solely focusing on Beneos Tokens and expanding our offerings to include animated tokens, spells, and items. We've noticed that many of you have appreciated the custom items, spells, subclasses, and other cool additions we've included in our recent releases. We plan to expand this custom content further.
Our search engine will be improved to comfortably browse our magical items and custom spells. We're also planning to offer printable item and spell cards, maintaining the high-quality standards you've come to expect from Beneos.
Changes to Animations
While we're discontinuing Animation Switching as it currently exists, we'll continue to provide multiple Idle Animations in both top-down and isometric perspectives. Our popular Preview Sequences will remain, and we'll continue to offer a death token that displays when a creature falls to 0 HP.
The time we save by discontinuing other animations will be invested in improving our tokens, items, and spells. We'll also be renaming the Beneos Tokens module to the "Beneos Module" to reflect its broader scope.
We're excited about these changes and believe they will significantly enhance your experience with Beneos. We'll be releasing FoundryVTT v11 compatibility soon, along with rudimentary Pathfinder 2E support and the long-awaited Token Switcher. This feature will make it easy to equip a custom-built token with Beneos Token creature animations.
We love what we do, and we're committed to providing you with the best possible content. We appreciate your understanding and support as we make these changes. Here's to many more exciting adventures together!
