New Loot: Defiance Injector, Scryepatch, Spear of Truth, False Idol
The Spear of Truth is a Tier 4 with a mindboggling gold cost, but an equally insane effect. On a hit you can forgo damage entirely and lay a creature bare: its alignment, type, intent, immediate goals, even a bit of one language it speaks. After that, the thing fights you at disadvantage and you save against everything it throws at you with advantage.
I like the idea of a saint or god handing it to one of its most devoted servants not as a weapon, but an incentive to familiarize themselves with their would-be opponents and gather experience in foregoing combat alltogether and finding common ground instead. However, if the truth laid bare is too horrific, this weapon is the perfect tool to dish out divine justice.
The False Idol is another really powerful item. It's a bit more complex to use than the spear, as it allows the user to weave a web of intrigue on the go: You can go invisible while an illusory double of you takes your place, and you puppeteer that double around the battlefield as a Bonus Action. Another trait lets you attack or cast once without dropping the invisibility, making for an item players can build a whole playstyle upon.
The Scryepatch is both genuinely useful, granting sharper senses, a steadier aim, and a free scrying spell once per day. And then there's the Cursed Pun. Attune to it and a Grimgheist starts hunting you down, and if you put it in the ground, it just gets back up. Due to its creator's distate for the pun, there's a neat little subplot going on that can easily be worked into a bigger storyline, if you desire to do so.
Finally, the Defiance Injector — a single-use stimulant synthesized from Crownbreaker Arch-Wyvern glands (look up that creature, it's one of my favorites). Administer it for a pretty generous 4d12 of healing, 4d12 temp HP, and haste. However, that spell ends after three rounds and we all know what happens then. So its an adrenaline-straight-to-the-heart panic button with a hefty hangover!
Overall, it’s a cool selection of items that you can use to give your players new toys or give your monsters some neat extra abilities or loot to drop! Everything is fully integrated and available to all patrons!
