New Loot: Laurels of the Strategist, Blastcharge Boots, Sky Shark Skin-Cloak & Behemoth's Bane

New Loot: Laurels of the Strategist, Blastcharge Boots, Sky Shark Skin-Cloak & Behemoth's Bane

The Laurels of the Strategist are a legendary item that gives the wearer more and more insight into opponents, terrain, and all other relevant factors as combat goes on. This translates into cumulative bonuses on attack rolls, saves, and ability checks, and the bonus goes up every round of combat. But that's not all, because as a brilliant strategist you can of course share this bonus with a chosen ally. And your own Intelligence modifier gets a bonus too, which can raise it to superhuman levels.

The Blastcharge Boots charge up by moving a lot. You can then unleash those charges to dash faster or jump farther or higher. The more charges you release, the bigger the discharge on impact. I always like to encourage my players to move around more, so I make sure to hand out enough items that enable or reward some mobility.

Sky Shark, my beloved.
Sky Shark, my beloved.

The Sky Shark (depicted above) is one of our creatures that's very close to my heart, so much so that I'd love to skin it and crawl into its hide. Now I can, with the Sky Shark Skin Cloak . At its most basic, it makes for a great tonge twister and it lets you breathe underwater.

Activate it fully and you can not only swim very fast but also fly. It all comes with a bloody aftertaste, though. If you have used the Sky Shark in your game (and you totally should), you know that just by watching them go berserk you might do the same. Wearing this cloak and causing enough bloodshed, you mimic this effect!

This might force everyone within a certain radius to throw caution to the wind and, if need be, dive into the carnage with their bare hands. For some, that's of course a welcome bonus, and I can tell you from experience that it's a lot of fun to watch even the pasty spellcasters suddenly go at each other because they succumb to the call of blood.

Finally, Behemoth's Bane is a hardboiled ranged option for everyone. It can also be fired using Strength, and it's so heavy that you can't fire it in the same round you moved, and the other way around. In return it comes with an impressive d12 damage die, which even grows to 2d12 against Huge or Gargantuan creatures, and you get advantage targeting these, well, behemoths on top of that.

You can give up the advantage to automatically max one of the damage dice. Creatures in that size category can easily spare a hit point or two, so the barbarian gets his money's worth as well when he once again can't reach flying enemies in melee. The bow is fun against smaller enemies too. They're harder to hit, but they always take full damage.

Overall, it’s a cool selection of items that you can use to freshen up your loot tables, give your NPCs some neat extra abilities, or stock your shopkeepers' shelves! Download them via the Beneos Cloud, available to all supporters!
