Towards the Abyss: Underdark Dungeon Ruins

Towards the Abyss: Underdark Dungeon Ruins

You voted, and the Underdark climbed high in our last community poll. So here are the Underdark Dungeon Ruins.

A massive release, spanning fourteen animated battlemaps with their sceneries, one intro sequence, three ten-minute ambience tracks to set the mood and 61 rendered handouts with detailed shots for your players. As always, everything imports straight through the module.

Hidden from the sun’s loving rays, many a civilization has brought doom upon itself.

Going further where they should have stopped.

In any case, venturing forth into the lost places deep below will be worth it.

...or the stories!
...or the stories!

Fourteen maps, depicting a breathtaking journey through this lightless world, giving you more than enough room for tense environmental challenges, cinematic encounters and impressive battles. You can run it as a coherent story or, as always, pick and choose whatever you like and insert it wherever you see fit. After all, its your story to tell!

ALL IN ALL:

  • 14x Animated battlemaps + 14x animated scenes:

  • Immersive, custom ambient audio tracks tailored to the landscape

  • 1x animated intro sequence

  • 60+ 3D-rendered player handouts

Let's take a detailed look at each map and talk about what makes each of them a great fit for your adventures.

Map 1: Destroyed Gate

The first two maps serve well as points of transition. the party can either traverse a destroyed gate...

Map 2: Collapsed Wall

...or stumble upon this collapsed wall. Both tell a story, with the gate bursted open from inside, and the wall collapsed by a chance breakthrough.

Map 3+4: Underdark Chasm & Cliff Trail

These maps along the chasm and up the trail highlight the gaping abyss below, indicating the constant theat of falling or something ascending.

Map 5: Underdark Gate

The gate marks another segment, with the ruins making way for the inner structure. a great visual to hype your players for the next part of their journey.

Map 6+7 : Ruined Stairs & Cave Trail

While the players travel along the ruined stairs or the cave trail, the sceneries always convey the sheer scale of this place.

Here the players could pick up the trail of previous explorers, maybe an abyssal envoy and his posse of conjured demons or an eldritch envoy who amassed a small cult.

Map 8: Stone Bridge

When traversing the underdark, a massive bridge is a must. We added an interesting spectator variant, the contemplator, as a hovering threat that can rise from below and introduce the players to the planar weirdness that stems from the rift deeper within.

Map 9: Dungeon Entrance

A great archway leeding deeper into the structure, guarded by torch-bearing statues. you can have these come alive to defend their realms, using the Vigilant Idol, bearing a torch, a sword, or both.

Map 10+11: Dungeon Corridors

These corridors lead toward the central sanctum.

Here the players might encounter the bizarre candle creepers, constructs made from living wax, haunting the decrepit tunnels. their original use lies in mystery, but their light has the power to reveal things that should remain unseen.

Map 12: Sanctum

This sanctum is the perfect stage for an epic boss encounter. here resides the sunwither seraph, a celestial sworn to keep the abyssal gate out of reach of malignant forces and hold the corruption flooding through it at bay. Eventually, the former angel succumbed to a demonic disease and has devolved into a feral hound that you can sic at your players for a climactic boss battle.

Map 13: Old Passe

After overcoming whatever boss encounter you planned for the main sanctum, this formerly sealed passage leads towards the abyss gate.

Map 14: Abyssal Gate

The source of the ruin that brought this once magnificent place to its knees. Maybe the players have what the ancient heroes didn't and can close the rift or maybe their true goal is to reach whatever lies behind.

As you can see in the video, ghosts emerge from the creepy statues surrounding the room and even try to escape the sealed door from time to time!

As always, we aim to release our content in whatever way is most useful for you, which is why here too we're once again taking the approach of a massive accompanying release of Beneos creatures, spells, and loot.

Here you can see the aforementioned Vigilant Idol, Sunwither Seraph, Candle Creeper and Contemplator! With the Infernal, Abyssal and Eldritch Envoys, there are three more creatures that you can check out, three different flavours of CR 5 warlock-flavoured goodness!

Important News - Beneos Streaming is coming

This applies only to Foundry VTT users.

If you haven't, check out this post about how your life continues to become easier because you are supporting Beneos.

Streaming is a new way to use your content for VTTs. Beneos Shop costumers or active patrons have unrestricted access, no limits or throttling.

Because content is streamed instead of uploaded, we can bring Beneos maps to other browser based virtual tabletops. A Roll20 integration is in the works, and it does not touch your Roll20 storage quota at all. The same goes for Owlbear Rodeo and AboveVTT. We'll share more when we have more to show.

Check out the aforementioned post for more details!

A lot of changes have been made to the cloud, to the module, to the whole Beneos ecosystem. There is a whole different post detailing all the changes we have made, that you can (any probably should, because its super cool) check out here!

There's also a detailed FAQ that will bring you up to speed!
